Monstera deliciosa is often called Faux Philodendron or Philodendron Split Leaves. It is very popular because of the very graphic appearance of its large, shiny dark green leaves, which are both fenestrated (perforated) and cut. The young juveniles do not have fenestration, it is normal. They will develop some with the maturity. The Monstera deliciosa likes its soil never to dry out completely, but it is sensitive to excess water. It is therefore necessary to dose adequately. Leaves that turn brown or yellow may indicate a problem with watering. Fast growing, it is necessary to plan the adequate space for this plant which can become large. In its natural environment, the Monstera deliciosa is a climber that clings to surrounding plants. Indoors, it will necessarily need a support, either moss stakes or a fixed support. This plant comes from a humid environment, where it thrives under larger plants, so it does not like to be exposed to direct sunlight, which could burn its leaves.

The plant gets its name deliciosa from the fruit it produces, which is edible when ripe and is said to taste like all tropical fruits at once. Before maturity, it is poisonous. We therefore advise you to do your research before consuming it.
