Hoya 'Sunrise' is a captivating variety of Hoya, often appreciated for its ability to develop spectacular coloration in the right light. This plant is a hybrid, known for its leaves that can take on deep red hues when exposed to direct sunlight, hence the name 'Sunrise'.

Origin: Like most Hoyas, 'Sunrise' is derived from plants native to the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, Australia and the Pacific Islands. Hoyas are generally epiphytic or lithophytic plants in their natural habitat.

Growth: Hoya 'Sunrise' is a climbing or drooping plant with stems that can lengthen considerably. It is perfect for growing in suspension or on a support where it can cling and climb.

Flowers: This variety produces star-shaped umbels of flowers, typical of Hoyas. The flowers are generally cream-colored with a yellow center, and give off a sweet fragrance, especially in the evening and at night. The flowers are also notable for their waxy texture.

Light: Hoya 'Sunrise' thrives in bright indirect light and can tolerate a few hours of direct sun, which intensifies the red coloring of its leaves. However, excessive exposure to direct sunlight can cause burns.

Watering: As with most Hoyas, 'Sunrise' prefers its substrate to dry out between waterings. It is fairly drought tolerant once established, but regular watering promotes optimal growth and flowering.

Substrate: A well-draining mix is crucial to avoid root rot.

Toxicity: Hoyas are generally considered non-toxic to humans and pets, making them safe for use in home environments.
