Hoya sarawak, often called simply by its genus, Hoya, is a flowering climber belonging to the Apocynaceae family. It is known for its fleshy, glossy leaves and star-shaped flower clusters, characteristic of the Hoya genus. Native to tropical regions, this specific variety is often associated with natural habitats in Southeast Asia, notably on the island of Borneo, part of the Malaysian state of Sarawak.

Origin: Hoya sarawak takes its name from Sarawak, a region on the island of Borneo. This plant is adapted to the humid, warm environments of the rainforest, where it can climb on other plants or objects to maximize its exposure to light.

Growth: Hoya sarawak's growth can be described as moderate, with spreading, climbing stems supporting thick, often large leaves. Indoors, it can be guided along a support to emphasize its climbing nature.

Flowers: Hoya sarawak flowers are particularly attractive, grouped in spherical umbels that can appear all year round under the right growing conditions. These often fragrant flowers range in color from white to pink, with a darker center.

Light: Prefers bright indirect light, but can tolerate lower light levels. Direct sunlight, especially during the hottest hours, can damage leaves and flowers.

Watering: Watering should be moderate, allowing the substrate to dry out between waterings. Hoya sarawak is relatively drought tolerant thanks to its succulent leaves, but appreciates constant humidity during its active growth period.

Substrate: A well-draining mix is essential to prevent root rot. A standard houseplant substrate, amended with perlite or pine bark, can provide the necessary drainage and aeration.

Toxicity: Hoyas are generally considered non-toxic to humans and pets, making them suitable for a variety of domestic environments.
