Piper crocatum is a plant native to the tropical regions of South America. It is also known as "pepper vine" or "chili pepper".
It has a long green stem with dark green, pink lined leaves with serrated edges. The flowers are white and grow in clusters at the end of the stem. The fruit of this plant is red and looks like a bell pepper.
The piper crocatum plant needs to be watered regularly and fertilized every two to three weeks during its growing season (spring to fall).
Watering: Let the substrate dry slightly between waterings.
Brightness: intense to medium
Growth: medium
*If you examine the back of a Piper Crocatum leaf, you can see tiny transparent crystals developing. These crystals are known as exudate and are a natural product of the plant. They allow the plant to release excess sugars through small openings in the leaf tissue.
