Ferocactus glaucescens cv. 'Inermis' is a special cultivated variety of Ferocactus glaucescens, remarkable for the absence or significant reduction of thorns, hence the name "inermis" meaning "thornless" in Latin. This feature offers a unique aesthetic among cacti, highlighting the plant's globular or slightly cylindrical shape and skin texture, without the dangers usually associated with cactus thorns.

Origin: Like the type species, Ferocactus glaucescens cv. 'Inermis' is native to Mexico, where it grows in arid, rocky environments. Ferocactus glaucescens, in general, is adapted to survive in water-scarce environments, storing moisture in its fleshy body.

Growth: This variety develops a globular to cylindrical bluish-green body, reaching a notable diameter and height with age. The absence of thorns accentuates its color and shape, making the plant particularly attractive for cactus collections.

Flowers: 'Inermis' produces yellow flowers in late spring or early summer, similar to those of the type species. The flowers usually appear near the top of the plant, adding an interesting color contrast.

Light: Prefers bright light to direct sunlight. Adequate sun exposure is necessary to encourage healthy growth and flowering, as well as to maintain the plant's vibrant color.

Watering: Watering should be moderate during the growing season, allowing the substrate to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering during the winter dormancy period.

Substrate: A well-draining mix is crucial. Using a cactus-specific substrate, enriched with perlite and pumice, is ideal to ensure good drainage and prevent root rot.

Toxicity: Ferocactus glaucescens cv. Inermis' is not known to be toxic to humans or pets. The absence of thorns makes this variety particularly suitable for environments where the safety of children and pets is a concern.
