Dischidia ruscifolia is a plant of Philippine origin that grows as an epiphyte on trees, attaching itself to them with its small roots born at the nodes of the leaves. This plant, called "Million Hearts Plant", flowers frequently and easily when grown indoors. The flowers are white, tiny and very fragrant. Million Hearts Plant (Dischidia ruscifolia) is easy to grow and has many heart-shaped leaves on creeping stems, hence its common name. This beautiful heart-shaped creeping plant is an epiphyte, a group of plants close to Hoyas! It should be treated similarly to Hoya if you have ever grown one.

An epiphyte means that this plant grows on another plant in nature. In the same way that many ferns or bromeliads do. (Stag horn ferns are like this. That's why you often see them in patches, hanging on walls, with some moss). Although epiphytes grow on other plants, they are not parasitic. They get their moisture and nutrients from the air, rain, water or debris that accumulates around them.

Therefore, instead of traditional potting soil, these plants are commonly grown in materials such as orchid bark or coconut shell. They need plenty of aeration and don't want to be buried in compacted soil or overwatered. If you use potting soil, it should have plenty of coarse additives that will ensure good aeration and quick drainage. As for watering, wait until the soil is dry before doing so. The same way as for any "chain" plant, or orchid or Hoya! Simply give a small amount of water on the surface, making sure the water reaches the entire surface.
