Rhipsalis clavata is a unique epiphytic cactus species, originating mainly from the tropical forests of Brazil. Unlike most cacti, Rhipsalis clavata is distinguished by its non-spiny nature and long, drooping stems, making it an excellent choice for an indoor hanging plant.

Origin: Native to Brazil, Rhipsalis clavata grows naturally in trees or other vertical supports in tropical rainforests, taking advantage of ambient humidity and nutrients accumulated in bark crevices.

Growth: This cactus has a drooping or pendulous growth habit, with cylindrical stems that can reach several meters in length under ideal growing conditions. The stems are segmented, with slightly swollen nodes that give the plant its name 'clavata', which means 'club-shaped' in Latin.

Flowers: Rhipsalis clavata produces small white or pink flowers, often in abundance, which can appear along the stems. These delicate flowers are followed by small berry-like fruits.

Light: Prefer indirect or filtered light. Too much direct sun can burn the stems, while too little light can inhibit flowering and reduce plant vigor.

Watering: As this is a cactus, watering should be moderate. Allow the substrate to dry out almost completely between waterings. During the growing season, water regularly, but make sure your pot has good drainage to avoid excess water.

Substrate: Use a well-draining mixture, ideally a substrate for orchids or epiphytes, which can include coconut fibre, bark of various sizes, pumice, perlite and charcoal. This mixture will ensure an airy, well-drained environment, simulating its natural habitat.

Toxicity: Rhipsalis clavata is non-toxic to humans and pets, making it a safe choice for households with children or pets.
