Astrophytum myriostigma var. multicostatum 'Haku-jo' f. variegata: This particular form of Astrophytum myriostigma, called 'Haku-jo', is known for its exceptionally high number of ribs (multicostatum), giving it an almost sculptural appearance. The term 'variegata' indicates that this variety has areas of different color on its body, typically spots or streaks of yellow, cream or sometimes pink on a green background, adding further visual interest. These features make 'Haku-jo' f. variegata very attractive to collectors and cactus enthusiasts alike.

Origin: Astrophytum myriostigma is native to Mexico. However, the 'Haku-jo' f. variegata variety is a cultivated form created by cactus enthusiasts.
Growth: This variety is slow-growing. Due to its high rib count and variegation, each specimen is unique and can vary in shape and size.
Flowers: Can produce large yellow flowers, typical of the species Astrophytum myriostigma, usually in summer, depending on growing conditions.
Light: Requires strong light to maintain its compact shape and variegation. Insufficient light can lead to stretched growth and loss of variegation.
Watering: As with other cacti, watering should be moderate during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering sharply in winter to prevent root rot.
Substrate: A well-draining cactus mix is essential, consisting of potting soil, coarse sand and perlite or gravel.
Temperature: Thrives in warm conditions, but can tolerate cooler temperatures and even a little frost if kept dry.
Toxicity: Generally non-toxic. However, as with all cacti, care should be taken when handling to avoid injury from thorns.
