Opuntia aciculata, also known as prickly pear, is a species of cactus native to North America, particularly the southwestern United States and northern Mexico.

Watering: These cacti are relatively drought-resistant, but benefit from moderate watering during the growing season. Allow the substrate to dry between waterings to prevent root rot.
Brightness: They prefer full sun for optimum growth, but can also tolerate indirect bright light.
Substrate: Use a well-draining cactus potting mix for pot culture, or plant them in sandy, well-drained soil outdoors.
Flower: Opuntia aciculata produces yellow or orange, cup-shaped flowers that turn into edible fruit, known as prickly pear.
Temperature: They prefer warm temperatures and are intolerant of frost. Protect them from frost in winter if you're growing them in cold areas.
Growth: These cacti grow in a flat racket shape and are generally propagated by cuttings. They can grow relatively quickly in the right conditions.
Toxicity: Opuntia aciculata cladodes (snowshoes) are not generally toxic, but they are covered with small, sharp spines, so handle them with care to avoid skin irritation.
