Aphelandra squarrosa
Aphelandra squarrosa, commonly known as zebra plant, is a popular houseplant thanks to its spectacular foliage. The dark green leaves, heavily veined with white, create a striking contrast that immediately catches the eye. This plant brings a touch of lushness and dynamism to any interior, in addition to its ability to produce bright yellow flowers that add a splash of color.
Origin: Aphelandra squarrosa is native to the tropical forests of Brazil, where it thrives in shady, humid environments. It is well adapted to indoor growing conditions, where it can recreate some of the atmosphere of its natural tropical habitat.
Growth: This plant grows moderately, generally reaching a height of 30-60 cm indoors. Its large, oval leaves, up to 20 cm long, are thick and leathery, with prominent white or cream veins. The plant has a compact structure, making it ideal for small spaces.
Flowers: Aphelandra squarrosa is also known for its impressive flowering. The yellow flowers appear in summer or early autumn, forming upright spikes at the top of the stems. Each flower spike is made up of golden bracts that can last for several weeks, adding a touch of sunshine to your home.
Light: This plant prefers bright but indirect light. A location near an east- or west-facing window is ideal. Direct sunlight, especially in the middle of the day, can burn its delicate leaves, so it's best to protect it from direct exposure.
Watering: Aphelandra squarrosa requires regular watering to keep the soil constantly moist, but not soggy. It's important to let the soil surface dry out slightly between waterings to avoid excess water, which could lead to root rot. In winter, watering can be reduced, but ambient humidity must remain high.
Substrate: Use a well-draining substrate rich in organic matter, such as potting soil for tropical plants. A mixture containing perlite can help improve drainage while retaining the necessary moisture.
Toxicity: Aphelandra squarrosa is considered mildly toxic to humans and pets. It contains compounds that can cause mouth and throat irritation and digestive disorders if ingested. Handle with care and keep out of reach of children and pets.

When the order leaves our greenhouses, the carrier takes over your order. We are not responsible for the risks involved in transport. Please contact the transport company directly.
You must be present when your package is delivered, as we require a signature upon delivery. It is your responsibility to send us an email prior to delivery to advise us of your absence. If you prefer delivery without a signature, please let us know when you place your order. However, you are solely responsible for any theft or damage due to bad weather.
Delivery price:
The prices are established according to the exact weight of the package, and not according to a pre-established charter. You can therefore be sure to pay the exact price of your order. We do business with several delivery companies, which allows us to offer you the best price and the fastest and most efficient carrier.
Preparation of orders:
An acknowledgement of receipt will be sent to you following the confirmation of your purchase. We ship everywhere in Canada only from Monday to Wednesday in order to avoid that our parcels stay at the post office on weekends. Local delivery is available from Monday to Saturday for the greater metropolitan area. You will receive your tracking number as soon as your order is processed and shipped, along with the expected delivery date. This number will allow you to know the status of your order in real time until its final destination. Please check your spam box if you do not receive a confirmation email. We do not give any delivery time due to the large quantity of orders to prepare.
Orders cancellation:
Do you want to cancel an order you have placed? We can only issue a refund if the order has not yet been prepared and/or shipped.
Combine your order with an existing one
We offer you the possibility to combine your purchases made on our online shop only if your order is not in preparation. Only orders to be shipped to the same address and name can be combined.
Winter Expedition
During the winter months, insulation packaging + heating package are included in the transport costs. In case of extreme cold, we reserve the right to suspend deliveries until suitable temperatures return.
Pickup in store:
In order to provide you with quality plants, we ask that you pick up your confirmed orders, ready for shop pick-up, within 4 days of your confirmation email.
Returns:
All our plants are final sales.
However, if you have received an order that is damaged, incorrect or has a phytosanitary problem, please contact us within 48 hours of receipt at info@serreslavoie.com. Please Include a photo of the product, its packaging and your order number. We will evaluate the situation and let you know afterwards if we proceed with the replacement of the product or a credit note.
