In the garden: It is often confused with oregano, of which she is a close relative. However, its leaves are slightly larger than those of oregano.

Marjoram prefers sunny locations, is sensitive to cold and does not grow well in cool temperatures. The plant must be pruned continuously to prevent it from flowering and to prevent its leaves from developing a bitter taste.

In the kitchen: Milder and more aniseedy than oregano, it works wonders with tomatoes, poultry, fish, grilled vegetables and egg dishes. It is also useful in making sausages, cooking duck or goose and in dried bean dishes.

Virtues: In ancient times, it symbolized happiness, well-being and peace. Today, it is more recognized for its warming and calming effect. It is recommended as an infusion to help relieve colds, bronchial ailments and digestive disorders thanks to its antiseptic properties. It also seems to be used to treat anxiety, nervousness and insomnia.
