Euphorbia abyssinicacommonly known as the Abyssinian Euphorbia, is an impressive and sculptural member of the vast Euphorbia genus. Native to the arid regions of East Africa, notably Ethiopia and Eritrea, this succulent plant is appreciated for its cactus-like appearance, even though it is not a cactus. Here's an overview of its main characteristics and care requirements.

Origin: Euphorbia abyssinica is native to the mountainous regions of East Africa, notably in and around Ethiopia and Eritrea, hence its name, which refers to the ancient name of Ethiopia (Abyssinia). It is adapted to arid and semi-arid environments, growing in rocky areas or on slopes.

Growth: This euphorbia has a moderate growth habit and can live for many years. Its cactus-like appearance, although not a cactus, makes it popular with succulent collectors.

Flowers: Euphorbia abyssinica flowers are small and inconspicuous, usually appearing at the top of branches. As with other euphorbias, the flowers are actually inflorescences composed of specialized structures called cyaths.

Light: It prefers bright light and can tolerate full sun. In its natural habitat, Euphorbia abyssinica is accustomed to direct sunlight.

Watering: Watering should be moderate, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. During the winter dormancy period, watering should be reduced.

Substrate: Well-drained soil is essential for this plant. A cactus and succulent mix is ideal, providing the drainage needed to prevent root rot.

Toxicity: Like many Euphorbias, Euphorbia abyssinica contains a milky sap that can be irritating to the skin and eyes, and is toxic if ingested. It is important to handle this plant with care and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
