Aloe vera, also known as Aloe barbadensis, is a succulent plant widely recognized for its many medicinal and cosmetic applications. It is prized for its thick, fleshy foliage, which stores water, and for its clear, soothing gel, often used to relieve burns and skin irritations.

Origin: Originally from the Arabian Peninsula, Aloe vera is now cultivated in warm climates around the world, including Mediterranean and arid regions.
Growth: This plant is moderate-growing and can reach up to 60 cm in height and width. It forms rosettes of green leaves, sometimes with white spots or stripes.
Flowers: Aloe vera can produce flowers, usually yellow, orange or red, which grow on a long flowering spike. However, flowering is relatively rare in indoor cultivation.
Light: Prefers bright but indirect light. Can tolerate a certain amount of direct sunlight, but excessive exposure can brown or redden leaves.
Watering: As with most succulents, Aloe vera requires moderate watering. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, and reduce watering in winter.
Substrate: Well-draining soil is essential. A mixture for cacti and succulents is ideal.
Temperature: Thrives in warm to moderate temperatures. Protect from frost and extremely cold temperatures.
Toxicity: The inner gel of Aloe vera leaves is generally safe for external use. However, the plant can be mildly toxic to pets if ingested, and some parts of the plant are irritating if consumed by humans.
