Origin: Native to the Namaqualand region of northwestern South Africa, Aloe erinacea is a succulent plant particularly attractive for its shape and thorn pattern.
Watering: This plant is adapted to dry conditions, so it is best to let the soil dry out completely between waterings. In winter, water should be kept to a minimum.
Brightness: Aloe erinacea prefers a bright environment. It can tolerate direct sunlight, but it is best to protect it from afternoon rays in summer to avoid burns.
Substrate: Like most aloes, Aloe erinacea prefers a well-draining soil to avoid excess moisture. A cactus and succulent mix with pumice and activated charcoal is usually appropriate.
Flower color: In summer, this plant produces an inflorescence of a beautiful orange-red that contrasts beautifully with the dark green of its leaves.
Minimum temperature: Aloe erinacea can withstand temperatures as low as 5°C, but it is preferable to warmer temperatures for optimal growth.
Growth Rate: This species is relatively slow growing, so it can take several years to reach its adult size, which is usually about 15 cm in diameter.
