Peperomia caperata 'Red Luna' is a stunning variety of Peperomia caperata, famous for its unique foliage that immediately catches the eye. This compact plant is distinguished by its deeply veined and ribbed leaves, which feature a rich purple to reddish color on the underside, contrasting beautifully with the dark green on the top. The visual effect is that of a living, colorful plant that can add incredible depth and texture to any indoor space.

Origin: Just like the original variety, Peperomia caperata 'Red Luna' comes from the tropical rainforests of Brazil. In these shady and humid environments, it grows under the canopy of trees, taking advantage of the high humidity.

Growth: 'Red Luna' shares the compact habit and moderate growth characteristic of Peperomia caperata, forming a rounded, dense clump that fits perfectly on a desk, shelf or as a centrepiece on a table. It usually reaches a height and width of about 20 cm.

Flowers: This variety can also produce inconspicuous flower spikes, similar to other Peperomias, which stand on slender stems. While the flowers aren't particularly spectacular, they add a subtle charm to the plant when they appear.

Light: Peperomia caperata 'Red Luna' prefers medium indirect light, but can adapt to lower light levels. Intense direct light can cause burns on leaves, while a lack of light can decrease the vividness of foliage colors.

Watering: Watering should be moderate, allowing the substrate to dry out slightly between waterings. Special care should be taken to avoid over-humidification, which can lead to root rot.

Substrate: A well-draining potting soil mix is essential for 'Red Luna'. Use a substrate for houseplants or cacti and succulents, enriched with perlite or coarse sand, to ensure good drainage.

Toxicity: Like most Peperomias, 'Red Luna' is considered non-toxic to humans and pets, making it safe for use in home environments.
