Monstera karstenianum 'Peru', also known as Monstera sp. 'Peru', is an attractive tropical plant belonging to the Araceae family. It is highly prized for its unique, decorative foliage. This variety is specifically known for its dense, leathery, deeply textured leaves, with a wavy or bumpy surface that gives a very distinctive appearance. The leaves are a brilliant dark green, which adds to their appeal.

Origin: Although its name suggests a Peruvian origin, the exact classification and geographical origin of Monstera karstenianum 'Peru' can be a matter of debate among botanists and horticulturists. Monsteras are widespread in the tropical regions of Central and South America.
Growth: Monstera 'Peru' has a moderate growth habit and can be grown as a climbing or drooping plant. Indoors, it is often used as an accent plant in hanging pots or on shelves, where its foliage can fall gracefully.
Flowers: Like other members of the Araceae family, Monstera 'Peru' can theoretically produce spathe- and spadix-shaped inflorescences, but flowering is rare in indoor cultivation.
Light: Prefers bright indirect light. Direct sunlight, especially during the hottest hours, can burn the leaves. Insufficient light can reduce leaf development and coloration.
Watering: Requires regular watering, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Allow the substrate to dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot.
Substrate: A well-draining mix is important. A mixture of houseplant potting soil with perlite or vermiculite is often recommended.
Temperature: Prefers moderate to warm temperatures and high humidity. Protect from extremely cold temperatures and drafts.
