Acanthocalycium glaucum is an attractive cactus belonging to the Acanthocalycium genus. It is particularly appreciated for its globular or slightly elongated shape, as well as for its blue-green or glaucous epidermis, hence the name "glaucum". Its spines are generally short and evenly distributed over the surface of the cactus, adding to its aesthetic appeal.

Origin: This cactus is native to the mountainous regions of Argentina, where it is adapted to a semi-arid environment with periods of drought.
Growth: Acanthocalycium glaucum is relatively slow-growing. It can take several years to reach mature size and tends to remain modest in size, making it suitable for pot culture.
Flowers: Produces generally large, colorful flowers, often in shades of pink or red. These flowers appear at the top of the cactus, usually in spring or early summer.
Light: Prefers bright light and can tolerate a certain amount of direct sunlight, especially if gradually acclimatized. Excessive sun exposure, however, can cause burns.
Watering: Requires moderate watering during the growing season. It is crucial to let the soil dry out completely between waterings to avoid root rot. Watering should be reduced in winter.
Substrate: A well-draining cactus mix is ideal.
Temperature: Thrives in temperate to warm conditions. It is sensitive to frost and should be protected or brought indoors during colder months.
Toxicity: Acanthocalycium glaucum is not known to be toxic, but it is always best to handle with care due to its thorns.
